Project objectives/short summary

The ˝MED MED HERBS˝ project contributed to the improvement of economic and social standards of the targeted cross-border region through the establishment of cross-border medicinal herbs value chain actors and strengthening of their capacities.
Through a series of thematic workshops, the project increased capacities of various target groups involved in this sector. Joint marketing and export potentials of local producers are now supported by two branded associations established at the local level -"HERZ-MED-HERBS" and "HVAR HERBAE" and the "Mediterranean Medicinal Herbs" network established at the cross-border, regional level. Project outputs also include the elaboration of two local studies on medicinal herbs state-of-the-art, one joint market study, one study on medicinal herbs paths of Herzegovina, as well as a joint, detailed plan of future interventions.Equipping of the medical herbs laboratory in Mostar and acquisition of production-relevant measurement instruments for Hvar and Mostar laboratories raised the quality and the range of support services available to the producers from this sector.
Joint study tour to Provence in France contributed to familiarizing local stakeholders with new trends and techniques in growing and processing of medicinal herbs. Participation of local producers at two regional fairs in Split and Mostar helped in the establishment of new partnerships and the expansion of the network.
